Our History

We started back in 1995. A group of talented, enthusiastic students with a passion for music and a voice to be heard, huddled together in what is now The Polar Bear and over a couple of pints gave birth to Demon FM. De Montfort University's student radio station completed 25 successful restricted service licences (RSL's) before applying for a community radio licence. We are now back 24/7 for five years broadcasting a bigger, brighter and fresher sound, eager to give young people what they want; diverse music, up to the minute news, new sounds and information.

You only have to listen to us to realise how much we've achieved in Demon FM's history. We have a strong identity, Radio One Student Radio Award winning title, recognition of being in the top three student radio stations in the UK and a selective music policy.

Recent developments to Demon mean that we can only get better. Our executive committee is twelve strong and totally committed to producing innovative radio and educating people in all aspects of broadcasting. Education doesn't stop at the listeners; we are offering De Montfort students training, invaluable experience in presenting, producing, researching and Executive positions.
